As Jeff & I have traveled over the last few weeks from South Dakota to Arizona we were privileged to see many fall colors across this portion of the country. Wyoming rivers were surrounded by browns, greens, yellows and many tones in between along with snowcapped mountains in the far distance. Utah had rivers and majestic mountains covered in similar hues.
Besides the beautiful colors, I enjoy fall temperatures that accommodate shorts and sweatshirts. The days that begin with brisk mornings then lead to warm afternoons and close the cool evenings with bright star filled skies.
The cycle of trees can be beautiful. Some trees have leaves that turn those beautiful colors that we enjoy when the cool temperatures arrive and then shed their leaves before going dormant for the winter. They survive on nutrients and water that have been stored up during the summer and go into a hibernation period during the winter months when visually they appear as if they are dead. When spring comes they are renewed with new buds and flower again with gorgeous color bringing a view of energy to life, a picture of new life and vibrant growth.
Sometimes we can find ourselves spiritually dormant even feeling as if we are spiritually dead. This makes the spiritual warfare that we battle everyday look idle. This is not a time to go into spiritual hibernation, satan is waiting for us to rest and let our guard down from walking in the Spirit. He is standing, holding the door open wide for us to turn our steps into fleshly ones and into Spiritual disaster.
Instead, this is a time to allow God to prune us.
John 15:1-5 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
